This learning module is designed for:
Interventional neuroradiologists

Ischemic stroke is the 2nd leading cause of death and the predominant cause of long-term disability in the Western world. Until recently, the standard treatment for ischemic stroke was intravenous administration of r-tPA. Over the years, studies have shown that r-tPA followed by mechanical thrombectomy is superior in large vessel occlusions to only administering r-tPA, given the Mechanical Thrombectomy is performed by an expert. To expand MT's reach and meet the increasing demand for experts trained to perform this procedure, many new interventional neuroradiologists must be educated.

Mentice Acute Ischemic Stroke Intervention training software offers hands-on training on image-guided interventional treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Trainees can improve their skills in challenging scenarios by training on difficult accesses and dealing with complications away from patients and without the stress of being in an acute procedure. Several techniques are supported to achieve carotid access and remove the thrombus, leading to acquiring skills to safely and efficiently treat acute ischemic stroke.

Features & Benefits

Key Benefits

Hands-on image-guided interventional ischemic stroke treatment in a safe environment

Increases familiarity of different strategies and techniques

Helps to deal with complications in an acute procedure

Allows for focused access and thrombectomy training

VIST® Case-It to create your own cases

Features & Benefits

• Ability to use real clinical devices

• Stent retrievers and aspiration catheters (e.g. ADAPT) included

• Type 1, 2, 3 arch and bicarotid aortic takeoff variations

• Advanced imaging with biplane C-arm, DSA, shutters,

• 3D overlay and 3DRA

• Various cerebral anatomy variation with different difficulty

• Didactic aspiration visualization

• Various complications including dissection, spasm and distal migration

• Record and export cine loops for review and debriefing

• VIST® Case-It support makes it possible to import user’s own cases

Training Objectives

• Perform a safe carotid access in difficult aortic arch variations (e.g. avoiding vessel scraping, advancing wire without fluoroscopy)

• Perform aspiration through collection of thrombus at tip of catheter and understanding the flow feedback through catheter (ADAPT)

• Learn a safe technique (under aspiration, single motion) to withdraw a stentriever

• Manage carotid artery stenosis considering distal thrombus

• Navigate a tortuous carotid artery and understand haptic feedback on aspiration catheter

• Manage complications such as dissections, spasms and distal migration

Case Layout

Total of 6 interactive cases

• 3 cases focusing on carotid access

• 3 cases focusing on mechanical thrombectomy
